Installation

Plug it in, then ride.

On bikes with BMW Riding Assistant, the RM-1 connects to the factory mirror connector. There is nothing to cut and nothing to rewire.

  1. Remove the original mirrors

    Take off the factory mirrors and unplug the factory connector.

  2. Mount the RM-1

    Fit each mirror and tighten the included M10 bolts.

  3. Plug in and check

    Plug in the RM-1, secure the cable with the silicone ties, and check the indicators.

SR-1 Radar

No Riding Assistant? Add rear radar.

Pair the RM-1 with the CHIGEE SR-1. Its alerts show in the RM-1 stems, so you need no extra lights.²

How it connects. The SR-1 mounts at the rear of the bike and wires to the 12 V system. The RM-1 then plugs straight into the SR-1 main harness. The SR-1 user manual shows the wiring diagram.

Fit and setup

Which motorcycles does the RM-1 fit?

The RM-1 fits the BMW R 1300 GS and R 1300 GS Adventure. It replaces the original mirrors and mounts to the factory mirror points.

My bike has Riding Assistant. Do I also need the SR-1 Radar?

No. The factory Riding Assistant already provides the radar alerts. The RM-1 plugs into the factory mirror connector and shows those alerts in the stems.

My bike does not have Riding Assistant. Can I still use the RM-1?

Yes. Add the CHIGEE SR-1 Radar (sold separately). The RM-1 plugs straight into the SR-1 main harness, and the stems show the SR-1 alerts. Only the SR-1 needs wiring to the 12 V system, so please follow the SR-1 user manual.

Do I still need the SR-1 indicator lights?

No. With the RM-1 plugged into the SR-1 main harness, the alerts show in the mirror stems, so the standalone indicator lights are not needed.

Do I need to cut or modify any wiring?

The RM-1 never needs cutting or rewiring. With the factory BMW Riding Assistant, it plugs into the factory mirror connector. With the SR-1 Radar, it plugs into the SR-1 main harness, and only the SR-1 needs wiring to the 12 V system. Follow the SR-1 user manual.

Radar alerts

Does the RM-1 have its own radar?

No. The RM-1 does not detect traffic. It displays the alerts from the factory BMW Riding Assistant or from the CHIGEE SR-1 Radar.

What do the stem lights mean with the SR-1?

The RM-1 stems work the same way as the SR-1 indicator lights. A steady light means something is in that direction. A rapidly flashing light means something is closing fast and needs your attention. The light is a backup, not permission, so glance before you change lanes.

Can I adjust the SR-1 alerts?

Yes. In the CHIGEE GO app or on a compatible CHIGEE display, you can adjust the sensitivity and set the activation speed to 0, 10, 30, or 50 km/h (0, 6, 19, or 31 mph). Lower settings suit city riding.

Can I hear the radar alerts?

With the SR-1 paired to an AIO-5 or AIO-6 display, sound alerts play through the display speaker. They do not play through a Bluetooth headset. The XR-2 does not show SR-1 alerts on screen.

Why do alerts not always start at 70 m?

The SR-1 times each alert to the relative speed of the vehicle behind you. A fast-closing vehicle triggers an earlier alert, and a slow one triggers a later alert. This keeps unnecessary alerts low.

Mirror and compliance

Is the glass anti-glare?

Yes. The RM-1 uses gold-tinted glass with an anti-glare (AG) coating. It reduces glare from headlights and strong light.

Is the RM-1 waterproof?

Yes. The RM-1 is rated IP68 against dust and water, so you can ride it in the rain. IP68 does not cover high-pressure jets, so do not aim a pressure washer at the stems.

Can the mirrors fold?

Yes. Each mirror folds inward about 130° for parking, storage, or tight trails. Damping and friction layers in the joint hold the mirror where you set it. Fold them back out before you return to the road.

Is the RM-1 certified?

Yes. An independent lab tested the RM-1, and it meets CE, FCC Part 15 Class B, EU RoHS, and AS/NZS CISPR 15. E-mark approval under UN ECE R10 is in progress.

Is the RM-1 road legal in my country?

Approval requirements vary by country, and E-mark approval under UN ECE R10 is still in progress. Contact CHIGEE to confirm the RM-1's status for your country before ordering.

  1. The RM-1 does not perform radar detection. Alerts require the factory BMW Riding Assistant with Lane Change Warning, or the CHIGEE SR-1 Radar (sold separately). Radar performance depends on the radar system, the environment, and surrounding traffic. Always check your mirrors, stay aware of road conditions, and make riding decisions based on your own observation and judgment.
  2. SR-1 alert timing depends on the relative speed of surrounding traffic. Heavy rain and road spray can reduce detection. The rear strobe is less visible in bright daylight and does not replace a dedicated warning light.
