This guide explains what the BMW Electromagnetic Quick-Release Mount does, whether your motorcycle can use it, which CHIGEE displays are supported, and what to check before ordering.
What Is the BMW Electromagnetic Quick-Release Mount?
The BMW Electromagnetic Quick-Release Mount is a standalone mounting cradle for compatible BMW motorcycles and CHIGEE displays.
It combines:
- Keyless electromagnetic locking
- BMW OEM power connection
- Supported BMW vehicle-data passthrough*
- Wonder Wheel control signals*
- Quick display removal
- Vibration-damping mounting
It is designed for BMW motorcycles equipped with a compatible BMW OEM LIN power connector and communicates through the BMW NAV LIN system.
Do I Need BMW Nav Prep?
No — Not Necessarily.
There are two common installation scenarios.
Your BMW Already Has a Navigation Cradle
If your motorcycle currently has a compatible BMW mechanical navigation cradle, the CHIGEE electromagnetic mount can be installed in its place.
This lets you replace the traditional key-operated cradle with a keyless electromagnetic locking system.
Your BMW Does Not Have a Navigation Cradle
You can also install the CHIGEE electromagnetic mount directly.
The mount includes a clamp for a Ø12–16 mm crossbar and connects directly to the supported BMW OEM LIN power interface.
Your motorcycle still needs:
- A compatible BMW OEM LIN power connector
- A suitable mounting position
- A Ø12–16 mm crossbar or compatible mounting setup
Which CHIGEE Displays Can I Use?
AIO-5 Play for BMW
AIO-6 with the BMW Quick-Release Module installed
What About Displays from Other Brands?
Compatibility is not guaranteed.
Some third-party displays may be advertised as compatible with BMW navigation cradles, but similar mounting dimensions do not necessarily mean full compatibility.
CHIGEE has not verified compatibility with every third-party BMW display.
How Does the Electromagnetic Lock Work?
The mount uses an electromagnetic lock instead of a traditional mechanical key.
When the Motorcycle Is Turned Off
When the motorcycle is switched off or the cradle has no power: The mount stays locked.
The display cannot be released using the normal unlock button. This means there is no separate key-locking step every time you park.
When the Motorcycle Is Turned On
To remove the display:
- Turn on the motorcycle.
- Press and hold the unlock button for 2 seconds.
- Release the button.
- Press the release lever and remove the display within 10 seconds.
If the display is not removed within 10 seconds, the cradle automatically locks again.
Important: Turning on the motorcycle does not automatically release the display. It only enables the electromagnetic unlocking function.
How Do I Know the Display Is Locked?
Check the latch-status window before every ride.
Green — Fully Locked
The display is correctly seated and ready to ride.
Red — Released / Unlocked
Do not ride.
Half Red / Half Green — Not Fully Seated
Remove and reinstall the display until the indicator turns fully green.
The manual specifically warns not to ride when the indicator shows half red and half green.
A simple routine is:
Insert → Check Green → Gently Pull → Ride

Can It Use the BMW Wonder Wheel?
On supported BMW motorcycles and compatible CHIGEE displays, yes.
The cradle supports the BMW NAV LIN communication system and can pass Wonder Wheel control signals to the display.
However, Wonder Wheel functionality can vary depending on:
- BMW model
- Model year
- Vehicle configuration
- Original BMW electronics
What BMW Data Can It Show?
The cradle can pass supported BMW vehicle data to a compatible CHIGEE display.
Depending on your motorcycle, this may include information such as:
- Speed
- RPM
- Odometer
- Temperature
- Lean angle
- Other supported BMW information
But the cradle does not generate vehicle data.
It only passes information that the motorcycle itself provides through the BMW communication system.
This means two BMW motorcycles using the same CHIGEE display may show different information.
Why Isn't All BMW Data Available on Every Bike?
Because the available data comes from the motorcycle, not from the cradle.
If your BMW does not have the relevant sensor, ECU information or factory configuration, the cradle cannot create that information.
Think of the system this way:
- Your BMW provides the data.
- The electromagnetic cradle passes the data.
- Your CHIGEE display shows the supported data.
How Is It Powered?
The cradle is designed to connect to a compatible BMW OEM LIN power connector.
The current user manual specifies:
DC 12V operating voltage
It must not be connected to a 24V electrical system.
This OEM-style power connection also means supported installations do not require you to run a separate generic power cable directly to the display.
How Is It Installed?
The installation principle is simple:
1. Choose the Mounting Position
Install the cradle near the cockpit on a suitable crossbar.
The supplied clamp supports Ø12–16 mm crossbars.
2. Secure the Cradle
Remove the four clamp screws, position the clamp around the crossbar, then reinstall and tighten the screws.
3. Connect BMW Power
Connect the cradle to the compatible BMW OEM LIN power connector.
What Connections Does the Cradle Use?
The cradle includes two important BMW-side connections.
BMW OEM LIN Power Connector
Used for the supported 12V power connection.
18-Pin Communication Connector
Used with the compatible BMW OEM infotainment interface for: BMW vehicle data & Wonder Wheel control signals
This is why compatibility cannot be judged only by whether a display physically fits the cradle.
What If My Motorcycle Has No Power?
Normal electromagnetic unlocking requires power.
If the motorcycle battery is dead or the cradle cannot be electrically unlocked, there is a manual emergency-release mechanism.
Use the supplied T6 Torx tool to open the emergency-release cover, move and hold the internal override pin in the unlock position, then press the release lever to remove the display.
This is intended for emergency use only.
